How big is the UFO series Lunar Module? It is the space-plane that
looks like a trilobite http://www.trilobite.com/ . Someone sent me an .OBJ mesh model (not made by Don Showalter) of it a few days ago. It has two doors, one each side, shown as areas textured with a slightly different color. If they are accurate to scale compared with on the studio model, if they are 6 feet high measured vertically, then the module is a bit over 80 feet long. How much of the front end is likely to be cabin / hold rather than mechanism? It would sometimes have to carry large mechanical items and bulks of fuel and spare Interceptor missiles etc to Moonbase, not only men. So the inside would have to be at least that big, and the doors would have to be big enough to let them in. I get the impression that in pursuit of "coolness" the model maker took the trilobite shape too far. I see no purpose for the crosswise finning on the top of the "abdomen": in air it is aerodymically an abomination, and with rocket motors it is not needed as cooling fins like on some motorcycle engines. Same as with Sky 1 and some of the Thunderbirds, as others have pointed out. Oh well. It is said that "you can't learn swordsmanship from Homer". Likewise, I suppose, you can't learn aerodynamics from Gerry Anderson. |

I figured the thing had to be about 70 feet long. Dave H. |

I made 2 renders of it scaled up to 400%; that makes it 71 feet 2 inches long. These are 2 renders with crew that I made of it:- http://www.buckrogers.demon.co.uk/temp/lm1.jpg http://www.buckrogers.demon.co.uk/temp/lm2.jpg |
