I agree with you generally Rich, (who could'nt realistically, given that the series was made 36 years ago)except on one point.Derek Meddings effects team did fantastic miniature effects that pound for pound are as good as anything seen in the film industry today.
All today's miniature effects supervisors would generally acknowledge that he was the father of modern miniature effects.
His design of the model Saucer in UFO was incredible, despite the fact that it was a real problem to film and fly.I would also say it was not the same UFO.Yes,the appearance might seem the same to the casual eye,but in fact there were three different sizes, all different in design, and there were numerous variations within each design. The lighting of this model to acheive each effect was also different in each shot.It is really surprising to learn how much work went into setting them up.

Didn't Derek Meddings and some of his model people end up working on feature
films such as the earlier Bond flicks? I seem to recall the name Meddings in
the credits particularly of the Roger Moore Bonds...Pam the Canuck coming
out of lurk mode....

Yes, Derek worked on many Bond films, Superman and Batman as well...

Although the effects work on Superman seemed a bit
"cheesy" at times...

Meddings first Bond work was on Live and Let Die. He did the poppy field
destruction. He subsequently did The Man With the Golden Gun, The Spy Who
Loved Me, Moonraker, For Your Eyes Only, and died whilst completing
GoldenEye (the film is dedicated to him).
