Hi all,
"Flightpath" was edited five times that I saw :-O A brief edit at the end of Roper's telephone conversation with the blackmailer, following his nearly being blasted away by Carol with the shotgun Almost all of the scenes of Roper and Carol driving home after dinner All of the scene in which Straker is seen working on the problem with the sliderule included a brief clip of Roper in the car Carol alone in the bedroom pacing then sitting down flipping through a magazine included the shot of the SHADO security officers reporting their ETA at Roper's house Roper in the Moonbase airlock, as it depressurises and he steps out onto the lunar surface included scenes inside the control sphere No improvement on the transmission quality :-( The soundtrack was really bad! Not much to say about this ep, except I like it; one of those where you feel like a fly on the wall. Straker's a coldhearted smartass; Alec is gloriously human and makes this ep work. Roper's wig is a scream :-) I don't know why Alec Freeman would think showing Roper a picture of Carol dead would "twist his arm" wouldn't it have done the opposite? There are some interesting differences in the original script the UFO doesn't get destroyed and it is possible an alien should've killed Carol, rather than Dawson. Carol is being unfaithful well, who can blame her really, I should think it's true she married Roper for his money and that rather lovely house, at least from the outside ;-D Sarah |
Agreed, Roper's wig was a bit obvious. However, since 1979, when I see this episode I keep expecting Roper to put a trilby on and shout "Terence!" when things get a bit rough.
It is annoying that shows are cut to ribbons just so ITV can squeeze more adverts into them. Odd how when they brag about what you can see on ITV2, 3 or 4 they forget to add: "Oh, we're showing prints that we bought from a car boot sale last week so the picture and sound quality will be non existent and we've cut them to bits to put more ads in and if you don't like it, tough!" Sorry, felt a rant coming on... I'll stick with the DVDs. moonbasegirl <[hidden email]> wrote: Hi all, "Flightpath" was edited five times that I saw No improvement on the transmission quality :-( The soundtrack was really bad! --------------------------------- Yahoo! Is he still alive? :-) > It is annoying that shows are cut to ribbons just so ITV can >squeeze more adverts into them. Is there anybody who actually watches adverts anyway? I have to admit, with one or two exceptions, the edits made to UFO episodes haven't detracted from the story overall. But ITV 4's idea of where to cut to the commercials is annoying - especially since UFO was made with advert breaks in mind, but they never use them! :-O It's been interesting to compare the finished episodes with the original scripts though (thanks Marc!) and I have to wonder whether any of the scenes desribed were actually shot and whether they still exist? Probably not :-( > Sorry, felt a rant coming on... I'll stick with the DVDs. So glad to know I'm not the only one! Everyone on this list seems so well-behaved........... >:-D Sarah |

Probably not :-( Some of the scenes were definitely shot -- Fanderson has published photos on the set where Roper goes through his security check, and also of Lt. Harrington coming down to find Roper in his quarters (on the inflatable bed). But as to whether they still exist... I agree -- probably not. Marc |

IMDB shows George Cole's DOB as April 22, 1925. No death date, so I"m assuming he's still alive. : )
