Hi everyone,
I've just watched A Question Of Priorities on ITV4. What a
masterpiece of TV drama. It has all the elements that make UFO the
best science fiction series ever. If Col. Lake had been in it then it
would have been perfect.
The balance of suspense, tragedy and sci-fi action here is as good as
it gets.
The standard of acting of all the leading characters was superb,
totally believable. The anguish of Mary desperately hoping for the
recovery of her son is so real. Suzanne Neve's portrayal of Mary was
so good that you feel Straker's pain when she tells him "I never want
to see you again." Powerful stuff.
I always feel drained after watching A Question Of Priorities.
It seems really harsh on Ed Straker to take the blame for everything.
There was always only the slimmest of chances that the drug could be
acquired in time to save John. Straker did everything in his power,
even abusing his position of authority, to get the drug to the
hospital, although Mary didn't know anything about that of course.
The accident itself was not really of his causing. After all, it was
only on Mary's insistence that he had left before John could show him
his model yacht.
And then it was "EdÂ… Well do something." What about Rutland? He had
stood back and watched in silence as John ran out into the road.
I thought the interplay between Ed Straker and Alec Freeman was
excellent too, with both actors giving superb performances here.
UFO at its finest.
