ITV4 transmissions

dave_copley
I'm disappointed to see that the current ITV4 run of UFO appears to
have ended, I hope only temporarily. As the series run was coming
towards its end, I was very much looking forward to seeing 'The Long
Sleep' sometime over the next few weeks. I have only (partially) seen
this episode in the past. However, UFO is not appearing on the next
two weeks listings. I have two theories for this.

1) UFO ratings have totally died due to scheduling of the new series
of Dr Who in the same timeslot on BBC1. - In which case there might be
some hope that the final episode(s)of UFO will be transmitted when the
current series of Dr Who ends.

2) The remaining episode(s)are those which contain more 'adult'
material, such as drugs in 'The Long Sleep', therefore ITV has
succumbed to their original 1970s prudishness and decided not to
transmit such shocking material in the early evening slot! Mind you
they did transmit 'The Responsibility Seat' last week which I think
was one of those originally transmitted late at night some time after
the original run.

N.b I say episode(s), as I think there are 2 or 3 to go.

Does anyone have any insight as to ITV4's intentions?

I emailed ITV and got this (very) prompt reply :

Dear Sarah

Thank you for your email regarding the above.

We have checked the schedules and the next programme in the series is
due to be shown on Saturday 27 May although this is subject to change
due to being more than 2 weeks in advance.

You might like to keep a check on our website as follows:-

Let's hope so :-)

Thanks to ITV it was over 17 years after the original start broadcast until
I was able to watch 'The Long Sleep'.

If it was shown as part of the original transmissions I never saw it, as an
eleven year old it would have been well past the time I had to go to bed.

When ITV (Granada) finally did show it the slot time was 4am even in the
late 80's !! It was like watching a lost episode (I could have been the
only person watching !) as I don't remember the VHS videos being available
at the time.

Something I do remember, in November 1974 ITV Granada made an abrupt
programme change and replaced the scheduled programme with a UFO episode
'The Man Who Came Back'. I was able to watch it even though it started at
11pm.

Would this have been an episode that was not broadcast with the originals ?

I remember this sad fact because it was the first one I recorded on cassette
with the date of the recording - Every repeat show after that was also
recorded - I knew every line and FX noise (No web or Sat TV back then - not
even Video !)
