Interceptor missiles.

Kevin Lazenby-3
A thought did occur to me. If the missiles are destroyed, unused, when the
interceptors return to moonbase after
non-engagement of the UFO, Henderson would use it as an excuse to cut the
SHADO budget, as less money will be spent on such missiles.

Financial & `political` friction between
Henderson & Straker has always an ubderlying theme through-out the series,
ever since Henderson was passed over for Straker as C-in-C of SHADO.

Why would the missles be destroyed if they were returned to moonbase unused? Military aircraft do not have thier unused loadout removed and destroyed. The missles are not armed until they are launched - like torpedoes that arm themselves after launch.

The best assumption to me is that unused missiles are brought back,
and cases when this seems not to happen can be blamed on a
scriptwriting or filming error.

ittems down to world war 2 the bombers would drop the bayload returning to england so as to have less risk should anything go wrong on landing

I don't think anyone's suggesting that interceptor missiles
would be removed and destroyed following a safe landing - the
idea is that they might be jettisoned by the astronaut
in order to prevent the possibility that they might be involved
in a crash.

If an interceptor missile were to break open, it would quickly
become lethal whether armed or not.
