Interceptors- they were here first

I think it apparent that the interceptors in UFO are similar to the
fighters seen in the Star Wars movies. I think there was some
inspiration going on there. To my knowledge this is the first time
anything resembling dogfights in space with fighter pilot like craft
where ever portrayed on a serious level in a Sci-Fi movie/TV show.
If this be the case, then UFO did it first!
