Introductions

Deborah Rorabaugh-2
For the old-timers around here this will be old information so please bear
with me.

For the newcomers, an introduction:

I'm Deborah, the owner of the SHADO Library & Archives.
(http://www.shadolibrary.org). I am older than I feel and *way* older than I
want to admit - I was in high school when UFO was first aired in my city.

The SHADO Library and Marc Martin's UFO Series site (http://ufoseries.com),
are two of the oldest continuously maintained UFO fan sites in existence.

I know that Marc's site predates the SHADO Library because his is the site I
found when first looking for UFO when the internet was still in its infancy.

Ufoseries.com is maintained solely by Marc and he receives no recompense for
doing so, except from sales of DVDs and books from his site - there are no
ads, he has no staff. It is a long-standing labor of love for a show that,
although flawed in many ways, still grabs our imaginations and doesn't let
go.

The SHADO Library is maintained solely by me. Like Marc's site, there is no
staff, no recompense except from the sale of books and DVD's. All decisions
concerning any aspect of the running of the SHADO Library are mine and
anyone stating otherwise is profoundly mistaken. I am in no one's 'pocket'
and I am no one's 'sockpuppet'.

The SHADO Library primarily exists to archive and promote UFO related fan
fiction. As such, there is no censorship - all that is asked of any fan
fiction, either hosted or linked to, is that the piece be both an original
work and written in comprehensible English. Not all material is suitable or
palatable to all audiences. But that is true of any library. Some people
will also notice that a few known authors are not listed in the Library -
these individuals, for their own reasons, have chosen not to receive traffic
from the Library. That is *their* choice, not mine.

The SHADO Library also hosts photos and other fan related material, much of
which has come from a few avid collectors who graciously scanned their
collections and sent them to me for inclusion in the Library. Some of these
items were, and are, not simply rare but one of a kind. Inclusion of these
materials was at my discretion and no one else's.

The UFO fandom has had a long, and occasionally, tempestuous history. Very
few shows as old as UFO is have the long-standing fandom that it has. Very
few shows have been able to maintain their initial charm for over 40 years.

I hope it continues to reach and fascinate old and new fans for years to
come.

Heh, my UFO site may be one of the oldest TV show fan sites on the Internet,
period!  I think I started work on that in the fall of 1994 (?)

Although most of the hard work on that site took place between 1995 - 2000.
My time has been split so many ways since then that it's hard to find enough
time to keep up on reading me incoming email, let alone start and finish
something for that site.

That actually sounds about right ;-)

I think I found your site about '95. I hadn't even realized there was an
active UFO fandom out there until then. *grin*

And keeping up when so much is going on.

Marc,
So you're who we have to blame for all those TV show fan sites out there! See what you started? *grin*
Thanks, Marc, for your vision.  It has brought some really wonderful people with a common interest together over all these years.  May UFO continue forever!

SHADO UFO Pistol prop - finally

harada357
In reply to this post by Denise Felt

Hello all,

I have been working on a UFO SHADO Pistol prop reproduction for since October 2010.  I finally figured out how to sculpt, build, and cast resin.

I am working on a new master to fix some details.  Then there will be a new casting.  I had to see if I could do it first.

The Prop posting thread is on the Replica Prop Forum.  There is a huge Gerry Anderson fan following.  Many people on the Shado Yahoo group forum helped with details on the pistol.  I am trying not to disappoint.

I am learning new techniques all the time.  You can see pics of the progress by following the posts in the thread.  If you join the forum, you can search for other Gerry Anderson projects - and UFO is always a favorite.

Here is the link:  http://www.therpf.com/f9/gerry-anderson-ufo-tv-series-shado-pistol-replica-build-94401/

Thanks to all in the SHADO gorups that helped with pics and information.  The new master will be a much better product because of the information.

Please tell me what you think.

Gordon

Thank you - not many shows have captured the imagination of so many for so
long. And we have so many talented people here - model makers, CGI
programmers, artists, writers. And people from so many walks of life.
Aerospace professionals, scientists, engineers, artists, clothing designers,
computer programmers, people who have served in their armed services,
students, retired people. Such a wide array of knowledge and experience and
talent.

And it really is a pleasure to be able to showcase even some of that talent
and hard work for everyone to enjoy.

Thank you.

are you aware of the grey plumber's putty, that is epoxy and like clay, you mash it up and when it gets hot, you push it into a mold, or cast it over a positive for it to become a mold. there is a odor, but nothing as strong as resin.

Yuchtar-2
In reply to this post by Marc Martin
Wow, you must have just started when I found you. I think it was 1993
when I first ventured into cyberspace. I was in college and didn't have
a computer of my own yet. I remember sitting in the computer lab on
campus at around 2 AM - I had class during the day and worked evenings -
and there I was, kind of bored and thought I'd do a search for this cool
show I had just started watching on SciFi and WOW! I found FAB-UFO and
all kinds of neato people who just loved this show. LOL! Hard to believe
it was so long ago ......

I'm one of the few old-timers who did not actually see the show when it
aired originally.

Well, for those newbies who don't know me, I'm Yuchtar, the resident
Klingon, mostly known for writing slashy crossover fanfiction. In
another incarnation, I also co-wrote the 2002 UFO comic book for Misc!
Mayhem Comics. Alas, that never made it into final print. Never did hear
just what happened to that deal.

It may amuse some to know I met my husband in the old FAB-UFO group -
It's YOUR fault, Marc! LOL!

Welcome newcomers!

Y

Thanks Jim for the Grey Plummers putty idea.  It works for small scale specific parts and molded detail.  I prefer bondo with hardener for those kind of jobs.

Thansk for the reposnse.  I am always trying to learn new and better ways to create.  Plummers putty will be added to the bag of tricks.

Thanks,

Gordon

Re: Introductions

Matt
In reply to this post by Deborah Rorabaugh-2
Deb, your site as well as Marc's were the first two that I found when my interest in UFO was re-sparked. A big thank you to both of you! In fact Deb inspired me to write my first UFO fic with the words she used in the introduction to the library. "...and to those brave enough to share their vision." That was a year and a half ago. So I suppose that makes me a newbee. But I have enjoyed all the talent put forth here, the modeling, the writing, artistic expression, the commentary. I find it amazing that a forty year old, single season TV show, could say so much to so many people. And we all saw something slightly different, and in some cases dramaticly different. Yet it was the same show, a show that spoke to each one of us in it's own way.

Deb, you summed up the talent on the board quite well, I know there are a couple of fellow astronomers aboard as well. *grin*

I still have to wonder if Gerry Anderson realizes the scope of what he created. I still hold onto a small thread of hope that the movie (if it ever gets done) will do the series justice.

That sounds about right. Prior to the start of the website, you had the email
list. I joined the list in late 1992 or early 1993.
