Heh, only 48 years for those of us living in the USA. :-)

Yep, it was September 1972 for us in the USA on CBS affiliates.

Great, we have more reasons to celebrate 🙂

Hi Clare
As some of you guys are aware from my previous posts that I am re-visiting the UFO show on DVD (after first viewing it as a kid on TV in the late 80s) and I sometimes find it hard to believe that its 50 years old. Particularly when you watch the 'moon-focused' episodes like the excellent SURVIVAL, KILL STRAKER, DALOTEK AFFAIR (and even the beginning of the CAT WITH NINE LIVES) the special FX and the production are absolutely amazing. The UFO show really does stand the test of time in terms of visuals & production. Especially when you compare it to other sci-fi shows of that era (Dr WHO, even Star Trek etc). It is a crying shame that UFO did not get the second season that it duly deserved. Just imagine what the visuals & FX they would have created for a second season. |

Hi Ron
Does that mean that UFO was shown on a CBS-affiliated channel in every state in the US? What about the main CBS channel itself. Do you remember ever seeing a UFO episode shown on that channel? |

UFO was syndicated during its initial run in 1972-73, but it was shown on the more major channels (not the channels that typically showed reruns). It was shown on CBS in New York and Los Angeles, but where I lived (Seattle) it was shown on the ABC channel. Marc |
Hi Marc
So UFO was actually shown on major channels like CBS and ABC? Would that mean that most US viewers would have either seen or be aware of UFO during its initial US run? If so it is a pity that they didn't take to it to the same degree as other shows such as Star Trek & the Invaders, as it would have definitely led to a 2nd season of UFO :( |

UFO was not a network show, and was generally not shown in prime time. I think in New York and Los Angeles, it was shown at 7pm, one hour before prime time began. Marc |
In the San Francisco area, UFO was also broadcast at 7 PM.
