I'm female too, so we pick up certain things about each other that go right over most males' heads. You know how you guys have that weird grunt language women don't understand that covers every emotional response? Well, females can tell a lot about each other (from body language, expression, and word choices) that most men miss. Susanne played the role well and gave us a Mary who was obviously younger than her new husband. To another female, at least. No special powers of observation really. >Interesting point -- a so-called 'strong' person who surrounds themselves >with 'weaker' people is not really all that confident, and hence not all >that >'strong.' Exactly. >Given that Gerry divorced Syliva (a 'strong' woman') and subsequently >married one of his secretaries (a 'weaker' woman), it looks like you >are dead-on-the-money! Well, most of my wisdom comes from bitter experience. But it has kept me out of a lot of trouble since! And my second husband is the real thing, instead of the pseudo-man. So I'm the better for it. >Sorry for the trouble that I caused you, Denise. Hey, Jim -- over here! No problem. Actually, Jeff, the Great Mary Debate went on for some time last year. I had hoped to keep it from resurfacing all over again, because as Marc stated, we really only have the episodes to go by, because the Fanderson bios are a crock. And it's amazing how much differently each of us view the same 50 minute episode! We all base what we see on our own life experiences, and they can't help but influence how we react to the characters. I've tried to judge Gerry's idea of Mary alongside his other female characters in the series. It helps me to understand a little better why he made her the way he did. But it doesn't give me a very good opinion of his good sense, let alone his taste in women. But having met him in England this year and listened to him talk about UFO and his other work, I'm a little more forgiving of that flaw that I used to be. Face it, the man was a genius. And as the ex-wife of one of those, I can truthfully say that genius "covers a multitude of sins."
