Journey To The Far Side Of The Sun.

Been finally reading properly my copy of Chris Bentley's marvellous book, "The Complete Book Of Gerry Anderson's UFO" this week (£1300 hardback on Amazon UK, £495 paperback! I got it for £11 including delivery when I bought it!).

Chris mentions very early a film called, "Doppelganger", later renamed, "Journey To The Far Side To The Sun", which I understand to be a kind of spiritual precursor to UFO?

Looking around the Net, it's available on Amazon UK on DVD at around £3.30, on US Blu-Ray at £6.40 and, most intriguingly, from Australia from a shop called JB Hi-Fi at £18.62 (all prices including delivery).

Anyone seen it? Your thoughts? Recommended?

If I were to get it, I'm drawn to the Australian Blu-Ray because it's described as a new HD master of the US Blu-Ray, plus some rare extras that you can't get on any other version. But is it worth paying extra for as it's significantly more expensive than the others available?

Thanks!

That movie is of particular interest to UFO fans, as there is so much in that movie that got recycled for UFO, and lots of the same cast members.  The Australian Blu-ray is the best version, although if you just want to see the movie, then any release would probably do.  I don't recall the extras being super-exciting on the Australian Blu-ray. Although I think it did have a Gerry Anderson commentary track on it.

Do you ever sleep, Marc?!

Thanks for your reply. You're right - there is a Gerry Anderson commentary on the Australian Blu-Ray and the other special features are listed as:

Audio Commentary with Writer and Producer Gerry Anderson
Doppelganger – rare, never-before-released UK version of the film (UNRESTORED)
Extensive Image Gallery
Century 21 Unmasked: Open-matte model footage from the Doppelganger film print
Isolated Music & Effects Audio Track
Textless Titles
Downloadable PDF DVD-ROM of 'Fanderson' Fan Club magazine special all about the film, Script and other original paperwork
Copy of the film on DVD
Reversible sleeve with Doppelganger artwork

Do you know if the price I quoted is the best one for this edition? Can I try anywhere else?

As I recall, when that Australian Blu-ray came out, it was exclusive to one shop, JB Hi-Fi, or something like that.  So there was only one source.  I don't know current info on it.

I've seen it - been quite a few years though.  I really enjoyed it, especially because I'm a Roy Thinnes fan (from 'The Invaders', one of the very best American sci-fi shows ever made, in my opinion).
