Kirk Kerkorian finally befalls the same fate as British MGM studio at Borehamwood

Hi All,

It may interest real UFO fans out there to know that this week (June 15th) saw the passing of Kirk Kerkorian. He was the delightful chap who decided to close the MGM studio at Borehamwood while UFO was in production, and hence the delay in production and subsequent production move to Pinewood Studio at Iver Heath. Various stories persist as to why he had it closed down - many centre around the fact that he overextended himself in his purchase of MGM. It was a true miracle that UFO was able to continue production at all at Pinewood, and was only really made possible by the intervention and insistence of Lew Grade.

The MGM studio at Borehamwood - lock stock and barrel - and a huge tract of land were taken over by Christian Salvesen. Many of the old studio building were converted and/or demolished for use as cold storage facilities. Today, this same area is used as storage for Sainbury's Supermarket. Most of the land is now built upon.

Anyway, I thought this might be interesting to some...

Best to all,

Griff
