I've been wondering something. Lt. Ellis quickly disappears from the series
after the first few episodes. Does anyone know when did she leave the series,
and Why?

are you asking about the character or the actress who played her?
If you are asking about the character, I can't help you. However if you are
asking about the actress Gabrielle Drake then I can provide a little insight.
As you will seen on Marc's UFO site Gabrielle was not original picked to
play a main character. Her orginal character Paula Harris was suppose to be
just a supporting player. However when the actor who played the Moonbase
commander proved to be difficult to work with for Gerry Anderson they decided to
replace him with one of the girls and that turned out to be Gabrielle. It also
caused some casting problems as Gabrielle had been cast to appear in other TV
shows and films which would take place during the production of UFO. This is
why she is missing from Moonbase during episodes 2 thru 4 and 10, 11, 13 and
14. When UFO had to stop production mid series because British MGM Studios at
Borehamwood had gone bankrupt she kept working and this led to her being cast
in other things like TV series films and stage plays and so when production of
UFO resumed at Pinewood Studios months later her schedule had conflicts. So
she could not return due to these other jobs.
