McGoohan on UFO

Mark Davies
When all is said and done,The Prisoner is all about Mcgoohan.A very odd
man indeed. It's strange how some actors (McGoohan being one of them)
regarded themselves as somehow above everything else going on at the
time.I remember an interview with him talking about about the
Prisoner, and in the end I finally decided it was simply self indulgent
and pretentious nonsense, and was typical of Mcgoohan's attitude to the
audience and the culture in general.A self indulgent series wrapped up
in his own self importance. In other words and to quote Mcgoohan,It was
crap !

Hi,

Although it sounds a little harsh, I have to agree with you in all respects.

I know someone in the film industry who knew McGoohan (I won't name as he is still very much in the business), and in his words, The Prisoner wasn't about anything other than McGoohan. It was his showcase, his vehicle, and only became into being and existed because of the sheer 'force of will' that McGoohan was able to exert upon the company execs at the time - and boy did he know it!

A very difficult and complex man, who in another persons word only really existed in the characters he portrayed, with not much else existed besides. He was extremely hard to work with, would hardly ever back-down - even over silly and insignificant details that would never be seen or shown. Very smart and clever though, with an almost impenetrable psychology. Many and most McGoohanisms "as they were know" were left to ride because of lack of time, or sheer frustration and exhaustion on the part of others around.

There was an inside joke: "Who is number six should be, who the hell is McGoohan?"

Regards to all,

Griff

I seem to recall him saying it was based on a dream he had. Was very
dream-like, no?
