Michael Billington in Bond

Not the best picture of Michael, but here we see him (in early 1977) playing Russian KGB agent Sergei Barsov, having just taken a bullet from 007 in 'The Spy Who Loved Me'.  Such a shame that Mike never became Bond - as he so nearly did.  On more than one occasion...

What type of thatch would he have worn though I wonder in the Bonds?
 I can never understand why they gave him a wig to wear in UFO? His early episodes his hair looked okay if not thick at the front! sometimes his hair seemed to fall forwards around the Kill Straker period!
