Does anyone know if Michael Billington writes reviews lately? I received a
play review on another list and to my surprise the article is written by Michael Billington for The Guardian. I'm just curious if it's one in the same. It's a good review... Mary |

I'm just surprised no-one has yet mentioned the updates to Michael
Billington's website, including various photos from 'U.F.O.' (with fairly acid comments from Mr. B.), as well as other info. on his acting career, at http:www.michaelbillington.org.uk/ ... Best wishes, Andy |

I *think* that's a different Michael Billington, but don't quite me on
that .... Oh, wait - you can quote me - see this: http://www.guardian.co.uk/arts/critic/page/0,1169,574535,00.html Different guy all together - joined the Guardian in 1971. We know what OUR Mike was doing in 1971, don't we? -- Y "Veres, Mary" wrote: > > Does anyone know if Michael Billington writes reviews lately? I saw a DVD set for ONEDIN LINE at our local CD shop, and looking at the credits and the photos on the packaging, there was no indication that Michael Billington was in it. Did he only appear in part of the series, or have a very small role? Marc |

As far as I know he was a pretty major character in the first series at least. Though he's not listed on the DVD releases in the UK either [I was debating on buying them the other day] but there was a copy on eBay a while back that had him listed in the starring cast. He played a bloke called Daniel Fogarty. Jess |

Dolores Mantez also has a guest starring role on one episode.

Marc, he appeared in part of the series as Daniel Fogerty but do to US commitments he was replaced by Tom Adams (see: http://www.michaelbillington.org.uk/html/onedine_line_faq.html ) BTW, here are some pictures of Mike: http://www.michaelbillington.org.uk/html/onedin_line_photos.html and here is one - maybe you have to reload it - it's Fortune City :-( http://members.fortunecity.com/charlotterhodes/index.htm And here is the main title sequence: http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/ilove/tv/titles/clip16.shtml OK, I think that's enough OT :-) Christian |

The 'Onedin Line' series had a fairly large regular cast, but
the 'Daniel Fogarty' character played by Michael Billington was a major character in the series. Later played by Tom Adams - as has been noted, of UFO 'Psychobombs' episode fame (British TV acting of the 1960s and 70s seems to have been a very small world; everyone appears in everything, eventually). I well remember watching the series on a Sunday night from about 1971- 73 simply because Mike Billington, from 'U.F.O.', was in it ! (despite disliking 'historical' series - being more interested in the future than the past). Good to see the series being released on DVD - long overdue ! One of the historical costume dramas the BBC does so well. And by the way - I have put up some albums of frame captures from the 1985 film 'K.G.B: The Secret War', which of course Michael Billington stars in, in my public photo albums at http://uk.photos.yahoo.com/andy_lovie Michael's fans will hopefully enjoy them - feel free to copy them (and if you want higher resolution images, e-mail me privately), tho I'd be interested to hear of any uses on the net or elsewhere you have for them... Best wishes, Andy |

Hi Yuchtar,
You may be delighted to know that Michael Billington as Paul Foster has been also very popular among the Japanese "UFO" fans. (It seems that female fans are divided into two groups, that is, the Straker sect and the Foster sect...) The film "KGB The Secret War" was once released on video tape in Japan some ten years ago, and some Japanese fans had an opportunity to see it. Just for your PIECE of information... Kaoru "You are No.97" "I am not a number! I am FREEFAN!" |
