Hi everyone
Firstly, is the Hmm-Hmm-Hmmmm mentioned in Michael
Wolff's recent email to the Discussion Group, about
the live-action Captain Scarlet movie that Gerry
Anderson is preparing to work on at Pinewood Studios?
Secondly, I'd just like to say that I really liked
Tee-Pee's second draft of Mark Davies' excellent idea
for an alternative ending to Ordeal. Just think how
the series might have changed if this or a similar
ending had been used ... Kill Straker!, effective as
it is with Mike clearly relishing playing an Evil
Foster, would certainly have had a diferent twist to
it. I think the series may have been quite intriguing
if we weren't sure whether Foster was Human or Alien &
an air of ambiguity had been introduced regarding his
character. Maybe Foster would have to prove to SHADO
that he really was Human ... or not. This would have
fitted in nicely with the psychological, Prisoner-like
edge of the later - and in my opinion - better
episodes.
I got musing on the possibilities of this whilst
watching ESP. My Dad caught the end of this episode
with me and, not knowing the series, wondered if
Foster was under the control of the Aliens - because
Croxley could read his thoughts - and whether it was
going to be an ongoing storyline regarding the fact
that Foster may be under the control of the Aliens
that would be explored in subsequent episodes. I
remember Mike commenting at Eclectic 21 in 2001 that
almost every episode, Foster was taken over by the
Aliens & woke up screaming thanks to Jackson! As we
know, UFO wasn't really a series where a storyline
from one episode went over into the next - it wasn't a
serial - & I wondered if fans would perhaps have liked
to have seen something like this happening perhaps?
Maybe we could come up with an alternate timeline for
the series for episodes after Ordeal's alternate
ending based on Mark Davies & Tee-Pee's ideas? Any
ideas?
Neil
