Hi All,
On re-reading Chris Bentley's FANTASTIC book, "The Complete Book of Gerry Anderson's UFO", a number of 'new' facts jumped out at me, but the 'old chestnut' of the Moonbase Interceptor Missile came to mind, as I still keep reading about their 'stupid' design, and I thought I'd re-iterate the following:-
Quote from Derek Meddings:
"When the Interceptors have been launched, appropriate time should be allowed for them to be flown into the estimated path of the UFO (this may be many hundreds of thousands of miles ahead of it). When in position, an order should be given to release the atomic warheads/missiles from the noses of the Interceptors. These missiles would then quickly and automatically break up into ten smaller parts (similar to the way in which a 12-bore cartridge breaks up) and then, after about ten seconds (allowing time for the Interceptor to reach a safe distance) these parts would erupt into a blanket atomicexplosion. If the right calculations have been made, the UFO would either be destroyed as it flew into the explosion or be caused to divert." - DerekMeddings - Special Effects Director UFO
At Uforia he mentioned that having multiple explosions - per Interceptor - would have been confusing and too expensive to shoot/show, but the resultant atomic warheads were inferred anyway.
I won't get onto the 'subject' of explosions (their effectiveness) in space(atomic or not) as that is an entirely different subject, and has connections with space debris as in "conflict".
Just thought I'd raise the Interceptor Missile subject though, as I think it's REALLY important.
Best to all :)
