RE: Interview with UFO movie director Matthew Gratzner

MARY VERES

Well... it's not easy to keep a web site updated over a 15 year period Marc. I do believe I remember crusing your site for the first time in 1994. Don't know how much before that it was up though. 35 years is a long time to keep one's fingers crossed hoping for renewed interest....

Cheers,

Mary

Ex-rocket scientist... I've been demoted to airplane
scientist... :-) Hey, it's Boeing, there's more airplane
jobs here than rocket jobs!

But yes, a UFO movie may motivate me to work
more on my UFO website, which has been neglected
as of late (too many things to do, not enough
time to do them... I need that Alien time-freeze
device!)

Excellent article ,looking forward to the 3 films.

Been waiting for a UFO Film for a long time

There was a mention of Watchmen , I hope it's nothing like that because I
thought it was one of the worst films I have ever seen.

Anyone knows anything about the composer Richard Sortomme?
I find the actors in the original much better looking... Let's hope this superficial advance will be only one of the few in favour of the original...

All the best,
Branko

I thought Watchman was a great film, very true to the graphic novel and forme holds up better on repeated viewings than The Dark Knight (Which is theother film he mentions throughout the interview). He's really talking about the rating here where Watchman had to be an R to hold true to the book (And if THAT film wasn't true to the book there would have been no point in filming it) and how the R hurt the film at the box office.

It's more about where is that "sweet spot" for the UFO film, too soft and you've got a kiddie film which will grasp for that kid/teen audience while insulting the fans and confusing/insulting the adults.

Too adult in the violence, organ stealing department and you've got the hard R which won't make the $$$ to keep the franchise going.

Watchmen was never meant to be a franchise, it's one story with a beginningmiddle and end so it didn't matter if the R hurt it. UFO could be a greatfranchise in the spirit of Spiderman one and two (Forget three) where there is decent progression of the characters and some solid storylines based (and in this case) extrapolated from the source material.

Makes me pretty happy for UFO, let's see if he can find the right formula for commercial success and a great story. If nothing else it will raise awareness for the original show and make us oldtimers think back to those "good old days" when the only way you could see UFO was to buy some really expensive Japanese Laserdiscs or mimeograph a bunch of fanzines to keep the show alive. Oh yes, and some really really great websites and mailing lists! : -)

Yes, after all these years of fantasy who-would-play-Straker-in-a-movie
discussions, I've actually started to believe there'll be a UFO film in
real life.

James,
I am sooo psyched about this new movie! Can you believe it's actually going to happen this time? And with a director that loves the show? Who ordered this present for Christmas? It's the best one ever! Was it you?
Yours,
Denise
