Thanks a lot for this! I always wanted them, but I was put off of buying them on eBay, I have a thing about used books, and these two generally looked awful, being fair to good in condition...

On some of the "rare book finder" websites, you can still find booksellers
who have copies of these described in "fine" or "like new" condition.
I know that I have a copy of one of the UK UFO novels that looks like
it's never been read.

I agree. Books generally do look awful unless they are in pristine condition. I
know that's a rather tall order when one considers that they are likely to be
well worn with age. The problem increases with toys - how many children would
have kept these items intact, complete with original packaging in 100% unused
condition? No wonder mint items fetch such high prices!
