Hi all,
On my "UFO Series Home Page", I've just added scans of the packaging for the new Carlton UFO DVD Box 2. You can see these at: http://ufoseries.com/videos Personally, I was a bit disappointed to see each volume didn't feature it's own unique character. I'd rather had seen a Henderson and Jackson volume instead of yet another Straker and Foster volume... And the packaging for both sets is consistently dark, as if UFO entirely took place at night... in a haunted house! :-) The show wasn't THAT dark, was it? Marc |

But on the other hand I like these close-ups, especially the Straker one on disc 7 :-) Christian |

They look much more ordinary to me - not nearly as well done, I would say. In fact I reckon the effect of the posed weapon shots against the purple background is a bit camp! |

I *do* like how it looks artistically, I'm just wondering if this is a good representation of the series... Marc |

Given that I spend a large amount of my frame capture time on this show yelling "Turn on the lights, dammit! Can't you people pay your electricity bill?!" I'd say it's a fairly reasonable representation of the series. They did have an awful lot of scenes with a low light level, compared to the other shows I capture. - Lisa -- Lisa Williams: [hidden email] or [hidden email] Lisa's Video Frame Capture Library: http://framecaplib.com/ |

Will you be switching to grabs from the DVDs at some point ? Jonathan |

No, I think it's more the predilection for night scenes, underwater scenes, and sets with ceilings so the lights and shadows are weird. Lots of all of the above in UFO. >Will you be switching to grabs from the DVDs at some point ? Yep, as soon as I get the DVDs. I thought about buying the British releases, but may just wait and get the US ones. I'm fully occupied doing captures for another show right at the moment, so don't mind waiting a bit. - Lisa -- Lisa Williams: [hidden email] or [hidden email] Lisa's Video Frame Capture Library: http://framecaplib.com/ |

On a similar note, I'm *not* currently planning on updating the frame captures on my "UFO Series Guide", but I am planning on updating all of the quotes on my "Dialog" page using the Carlton DVD's as the source (I will slow them down by 4% myself), and also the beginning & ending music, if the DVD's are higher quality than what's already on my website (I suspect they are) I also plan on redoing my "sound effects" page someday, using the UFO "music & effects" tracks I acquired some years ago. Without the dialog getting in the way, I can probably do some better "background effects" (inside Moonbase, inside SHADO HQ, in the car, etc.). Currently that page uses the Japanese audio track from the Japanese laserdiscs, which, like the new DVD's, utilizes a much higher quality magnetic track source. Marc |

And although I don't currently have any way to make DVD frame captures, if someone is able & willing to make frame captures of the 5 scenes on my main page: http://ufoseries.com I'd be happy to update those! (unfortunately, I have no idea what episode those scenes of Straker and Ellis are from. The UFO is probably from Question of Priorities or Exposed, and the car is of course from Identified. SID is probably from Identified as well. |
