New (2011) photos of the Foster car

although you may have to join the site to see it!

Page 4 of it has new photos of Foster's car taken this past  August.   The
photos were take by a member of EagleTransporter.com who  goes by the name
'Troy' and all credit for the information and pics goes to  him.

The car looks VERY sad and, no, the owner is not interested in  selling it.
 Enjoy.

Who would want to buy this? In such a state of disrepair, it would be easier to build a new one than to repair this. It seems it didn't left much of the original...
All the best,

I'd buy it. It has provenance. It's the real deal. Far more worthy of attention than any copy no matter how beautiful and perfect the copy may be.

I recall seeing Straker's car in similar distress back in 2007 on some site. It was in a bad state but had the bronze paint.

Really?  In 2007?  What site was that?

I haven't seen any photos of Straker's car more recent than 1999.

Hey, I can't remember what site or how I got onto it but I assume the photos were fairly contemporary and Straker's car was clearly defined, although sadly in a distressed state of disrepair. How do these things happen? I wanted that body shell so much.

Hmmm, anyone else?  The last photos I can remember of Straker's car
were taken by Jeff Smart in 1999:

were the cars designed for the series?  Take a look around your neighborhood.  How many 40 year old cars are still road worthy?

A couple of months ago, I was walking around a parking garage here in New york, and stuck in a corner was a Delorean.  Not road worthy, but mostly there.

There are some reality TV shows on the History Channel called Pawn Stars and American Restoration.  Every so often someone tries to sell or restore a one of a kind unique item.  The problem is, replacement parts are very rare, and has to be hand made.  So either they give you next to nothing or charge you thousands to restore.  We aren't talking Fords or Chevies here were there is a abundance of spare parts.

I bet the present owners of those cars just bit off more then they can chew.

Or think about this.  How many people know the story of The General locomotive of Civil War fame?  See the silent movie called The General or the Disney movie called the Great Locomotive chase.  This is a true story how union spies went into the south and tried to drive a American type steam locomotive called The General back north.  The General locomotive still exists.. sort of.  There is a complete static display of a locomotive called The General.  A couple of bolts and some other non unique pieces can trace their existence back to the original locomotive of the same name, but everything else has been replaced over 100 years.

These are movies props and were designated to a bone yard. They were stored without any thought for preservation.   Yes, the Batmobile from the TV series still runs, but how many people remember the TV series called Emergency?  I saw Squad 51 sitting in a lot and looking like a rust bucket.

The cars were designed for Doppelganger (Journey to the far side of the Sun), and then reused for the series.

Yes, that's right, they were Ford cars. I always thought of them as concept cars. I
I can't understand how they were left in that state of dis-repair? Why was Foster's car left outside in the elements? Oh, so a cover has been flung over it and the wheels and engine have been removed (probably never to be seen again) at least that is something but big deal!

How come some of the lesser car models of the 60s have been restored EG: The Prisoner's Lotus 7 (and the Mini Mooks), John Pertwee's ancient "Bessie" from Dr Who, even Emma Peel's open top sports number?

Yes, even the Model-T seen in a couple episodes of UFO (and also the Secret Service) is also
in great shape today.  Or, I should say, it was when I saw it at a Fanderson convention 11
years ago...

The Straker & Foster cars simply fell into the wrong hands... :-(

On a similar subject, its just plain luck.  For those familiar with Peter Falk and his character Columbo, he had this old foreign car that was in sorry shape when they used it in the series.  The studio sold the car and the present owner kept the car in the shape in which he bought it.  When they revived the series years ago, the present owner allowed them use of the car, as long as they kept it in its very used condition.

You would have thought these unique vehicles would have been used for something else or gone back to the manufacturer to be allocated into some showroom / museum?

As a 18-19 year old watching UFO properly for the first time (1986-87) and understanding it, I was in love with the bronze body shell of Straker's car. I can't say much for the interior though. These cars exuded everything about a future car.
Inside always looked a mess:EG 1969 Alfa Carabo: beautiful and perfection on the outside but inside a dogs dinner!

This particular car is the one car I would love to own and it always reminded me of the SHADO cars because of the space age look and gull wing doors. Let me know if you want photos for comparison.

Model T’s are very common and replacement parts are easy to get.

Yes, even the Model-T seen in a couple episodes of UFO (and also the Secret Service) is also
in great shape today. Or, I should say, it was when I saw it at a Fanderson convention 11
years ago...

The Straker & Foster cars simply fell into the wrong hands... :-(

Re: New (2011) photos of the Foster car

The studio owned these cars?  If so, when UFO changed studios, did they take the cars with them? Or were they just used as props when at one studio?

Being fans of the show, we have a special attachment to these props.  But to the bean counters of the studios that owned them, they were just props, maybe useable for another show, but just taking up space.

So how were the two cars turned over to private ownerships?

You would have thought these unique vehicles would have been used for something else or gone back to the manufacturer to be allocated into some showroom / museum?
