Living in the Midlands area I also remember those ATV transmissions on Wednesday nights in 1970 and the repeats on Saturday afternoons in 1971,and the Sunday lunchtime showings in 1974.
I always remember there were about 7 episodes ATV did'nt show during the re-run phases because of the unsuitable times when children might be watching.Instead it showed 4 episodes in 1973 on late Thursday nights and late Saturday nights in 1974.
I always remember all of these runs like you with great nostalgia.The 1970 and 1971 screenings were watched of course in B/W.The first episode I saw in Colour was the Responsibility Seat in March 1973 (a late showing).
I have'nt watched any episodes in B/W yet,but I have thought about doing it just (like you to get the full on nostalgia effect).
What I do do however is watch episodes I remember seeing at similar times because of my vivid memories at the time.

For eample I only ever watch RITW on a summer's day around late afternoon,if its a Saturday so much the better.
Similarly I try and show the Responsibility Seat late on say a Thursday night (you get the idea).
Now that is sad.
