Please do tell! It wouldn't hurt anyone! :)

I don't know if it's a secret or not -- but it does fit into one of
those categories listed below... :-) Marc On December 31, "Branko [via SHADO]" <[hidden email]> wrote: > > Please do tell! Now, assuming it takes a year to write a book and another year to get it published, then maybe we'll see this book sometime in 2014. Marc |
Oh yes, he said that arguing that UFO isn't perfect. It's about time YOU write book about UFO. That would be something! All the best, Branko

Thanks, but it might be difficult to come up with something
that hasn't already been done before. Although I do recall that there was a really impressive (to me) book on THE PRISONER (can't remember which one offhand) that could be used for inspiration. Plus, one would have to get their hands on the photos that we can see online as thumbnails at Rex Features. You are welcome - I am sure you would come up with something. I have to say that there is no book on UFO so far that I am completely happy with. Your book would be closest to that concept, especially because I intend on designing it :) Those photos could be bought from Rex (although they are extremely expensive), if they are pursued to sell them. Funds for that could be obtained on Kickstarter or some other crowdfunding campaign site, and said thumbnails could be used as material for layout even before they are obtained (and replaced later). All the best, Branko

Your book > would be closest to that concept, especially because I intend on designing it :) :-) Yes, I guess we would have to establish what exactly is wrong with the UFO books that have been made already, besides them all being out of print, and besides most of them being in Japanese. :-) Or more precisely, what would you do differently than what Chris Bentley did with the Complete Guide to Gerry Anderson's UFO? -- more quotes from the people who worked on the series (in many cases we'd have to rely on what was said at previous conventions, since so many of them have passed away, but one could seek out new material also) -- more color photos, with an emphasis on ones that have not been circulating on the Internet -- less minor trivia and details > Those photos could be bought from Rex (although they are extremely expensive), I would assume that these photos are the property of ITV, and would not need to be purchased from Rex. After all, the copyright holders provides scans of photos to people who are making licensed merchandise (e.g., for photo galleries in DVD releases). Although I probably own enough UFO photos right now to fully illustrate any UFO book... :-) Marc |

I say that because I have seen the actual scans that were provided to some licensees of UFO merchandise, and in my opinion, the quality isn't that great -- low resolution, poor scanning equipment used, improper "photoshopping" to correct the color/contrast, etc. It'd be far better to rescan the original transparencies with good equipment, at very high resolutions and 48-bit color. UFO is probably something different to all of us, since we perceive it differently. That aside, all the books published so far lack the air and the atmosphere of the series. You would agree it is a big part of the series' appeal. I think it would be awesome to be able to project that aspect. Chris Drake's book on UFO and Space: 1999 was an interesting concept, presenting the people and events as real, but then arbitrarily inventing a lot of data and, as such, ultimately failed. Also, I presume you would agree that, wonderful as it is, Chris Bentley's book, lack of colour photos aside, wasn't perfect nor ultimate. And don't let me start on Japanese books... (I have all but Jaguar, and you parted with it without much of a regret, as I recall). Perhaps we should transfer this discussion to more private ground and really try to come up with a concept that would work. It doesn't have to be the assignment to do perfect or ultimate UFO book, but thenagain, why not? :) Branko
