New YahooGroups web interface

Marc Martin
Administrator
Hi all,

This may only apply to some of you - YahooGroups is working on
a new web interface, and has already switched some users over
to it. Unfortunately, it appears to be a complete disaster, and
is actually pretty unusable for a group owner/moderator (although
emails still work fine).

If anyone else has the new web interface and is having similar
troubles, there is a mirror of this group at Nabble.com:

  http://shado.965972.n3.nabble.com/

And one can participate in the group fully via Nabble.

And if Yahoo continues with this disaster, we may just need
to cut all ties with YahooGroups and switch. Not that this
is a very active group anymore, but I think we should keep
all of our years of posting available online.

And if anyone wants to complain to Yahoo, or vote in
agreement with others complaints, here is the place to do
it:

  http://yahoo.uservoice.com/forums/209451

Thanks,

Marc

Better than all those UFO Facebook groups? :-)

Those are definitely more active than this group is
these days. Seems like everything has moved to
Facebook... at least for now...

I'll second that .... I loathe FB and would not touch it with a 30ft electrified cattle-prod.

Marc, please keep this group going for as long as you possibly can ... it's the ONLY link I use to keep up to date with UFO.

Best to all,

Griff

Presumably YahooGroups will cease to exist if they continue
with their current interface. So hopefully something will
be done, and then there will be no need to move.

However, if we do end up moving, I'd move the group to
somewhere where:

-- you could still be notified by and participate via email
-- all past discussion archives are still available for searching

And like I said, I've got a backup/mirror of this group setup
for just this scenario. And I've just made the URL easier
to remember:

I was notified that yahoo is upgrading over several weeks, so you might want to hang in there, but if you do choose another kind of provider or what, like freewebs for a blog, let me know! because I consider you my friends about UFO and I don't really like face book as the privacy issues, there are a lot of trolls that attatch to you on face book. also I don't want to be tied to facebook 24/7. its too fast paced and if you don't respond to comments fast enough, you get left behind.

Windows 8 comes to Yahoo Groups. Personally, I was able to approve messages via the web interface on my smartphone. That no longer works. Bruce --- In [hidden email], <aquanaut52@...> wrote: I was notified that yahoo is upgrading over several weeks, so you might want to hang in there, but if you do choose another kind of provider or what, like freewebs for a blog, let me know! because I consider you my friends about UFO and I don't really like face book as the privacy issues, there are a lot of trolls that attatch to you on face book. also I don't want to be tied to facebook 24/7. its too fast paced and if you don't respond to comments fast enough, you get left behind.

I only do fb to keep in touch with relatives in different parts of the US, mainly because it's easier then e-mail or IM especially for mom because as it is now I have to stop what I'm doing to help her with e-mail. Plus there are games I like playing, Candy Crush, Words with Friends and Criminal Case.

Thing is to keep up with UFO even though I'm unable to attend functions, I'll follow where ever the group goes.

I completely agree. thus new interface is awful (seems to just say 'loading' all the time). If it ain't broken, don't fix it!. --- In [hidden email], <katd_1359@...> wrote: I only do fb to keep in touch with relatives in different parts of the US, mainly because it's easier then e-mail or IM especially for mom because as it is now I have to stop what I'm doing to help her with e-mail. Regarding YahooGroups, I guess the question is -- where would we go? I've spent the last couple days at looking at various competitors (free & paid), and I don't see anything that's obviously as good or better than the old YahooGroups. If someone has experience with something that they like, feel free to let me know (no need to mention Google Groups -- I'm aware of it, and not planning to move to it, as people hate Google almost as much as they hate Facebook)

probably a lame answer, but there is freewebs,
its like a blog, you can do the usual stuff. I went ahead and got facebook if that changes anything on where you want to go to. as long as I can get in there I really don't care. I hope you get what you want for the new site.

If you wish to complain about the new interface/look to Yahoo! Groups then the page to go to is:- http://yahoo.uservoice.com/forums/209451-us-groups/suggestions/4276993-return-groups-format-to-prior-format-that-works- --- In [hidden email], <aquanaut52@...> wrote: probably a lame answer, but there is freewebs,
