OT : No more Carlton DVD releases??

Ken Parker <shadokp@attbi.com>
FYI - From the Fanderson web site -
http://www.fanderson.org.uk/news.html

"Carlton have also announced that they are shelving any further
releases from the Gerry Anderson and ITC Action catalogues for the
forseeable future. A Region 2 DVD box set of all 39 episodes of
Fireball XL5 had originally been planned for release in July, but
this has now been indefinitely postponed. However, A&E Video in the
United States are continuing to release both Gerry Anderson and ITC
Action series on DVD and are already well-advanced with plans to
release Region 1 box sets of Fireball XL5 and Supercar during 2003. "

Have sales of Gerry Anderson DVDs been bad in the UK?

There is also info on the updated Live action TB movie - FAB1 will
NOT be a Rolls and Brains has a son!!!

Oh dear, that sucks somewhat .. F XL5 and Supercar are the only other
GA DVD set that I wanted (after TB, UFO, Capt S, Stingray).

Still, I'm sure I'll be able to get hold of the US release(s).

Weird. I would have thought that the sales in the US would have been less
than the UK. Of course, in the UK, there have been the various video
releases over the years of the various series, so maybe some people just
decided to stick with what they already had.

Who knows?

And the kid's name is Fermat. If the description of the story holds true, it
sounds like they are going for a SPY KIDS sort-of feel for the film. If
that's the case, why didn't they just make TURBO-CHARGED THUNDERBIRDS: THE
MOVIE? Ugh.

I already have mine on order, for Fireball XL-5. As soon as I heard they
were taking orders, I signed up.
It looks like after close to 40 years, I'll be able to see the entire
series again. ;)

Terrahawks isn't even a Carlton-owned property. Does A&E
even have the rights to release this?

I'm going out on a limb here -- and thinking that maybe A&E bought the rights
to Terrahawks?? Similar to the way they did it for Carlton's properties?

It's possible that the rights holder for Terrahawks thought it would be a good
tie-in to A&E's Gerry Anderson "Cult TV" area -- and perhaps thus offered them
the rights.

I hope it comes to pass as I thought Terrahawks was rather cute and wouldn't
mind having it myself. :)

I think the reason why Carlton are having a sabbatical on GA products
is quite straight forward. If out outlets such as MVC, Amazon.co.uk
and Benson world selling the UFO and Joe 90 boxed set at half price
and below, less the 6 months after release would indicate to me they
have not exactly sold well. Factor in, they have already released the
potenional big sellers Thunderbirds, Space 1999 and Capt Scarlet.

The UFO boxed sets have the hallmarks as being one pressing only
items, and I would venture in a two to three years time you will be
seeing the boxed versions attracting collectors prices on eBay and the
like.

These are collectors items in the making mark my words.

The Lunadude.

So does it pay to order Joe 90 from Amazon.uk? Any news on the extras for
a A&E edition? I really am not interested in getting the puppet shows on
R1 and R2, just to have them in my library. I am interested in
getting UFO and 1999 in the various editions but chalk that up to
collectors insanity.

This is the first I've heard about a Joe 90 A&E release. Also
Terrahawks. I thought just that company in the UK (What is their name???,
it's a small company compared to Carlton I guess)

>Also, we're striking a deal with A&E to swap some ads (you'll find
>our first one in the SUPERCAR release). Soon we'll be announcing some

I was able to pre-order the Supercar book at my local comic shop
yesterday. They knew about the book and said it had been delayed. So
there hasn't been any Supercar comic out yet? I just want to make sure I
don't miss an issue! I also mentioned to the owner the plans for UFO and
Fireball XL5 and to keep an eye out for them!

Back to UFO, so do you think the UFO sets will go up in price like the
lasers did before the DVD's came out? Is this the last good release of the
Gerry Anderson material or just the convulsions of a company that didn't
get the sales it wanted?

Will I be able to pay my kids college tuition on the sale of Out of Print
Gerry Anderson UFO and Space 1999 DVD's?
