OT: Thunderbirds on Tech TV

ultramannick
Has anyone caught The Thunderbirds and its text
'commentary?' One 'factoid" said that only ONE Gerry
Anderson series was broadcast in the U.S. by a
network: Fireball and NBC. I wrote to Tech TV saying
that CBS had picked up UFO and shown it in the U.S.

Is this 'commentary' kind of accurate? Mostly
accurate? There some interesting info, evne though
it's presented in a condensending tone.

Actually, the commentary is correct and your message
to Tech TV was incorrect. UFO was a syndicated series.
CBS seemed to have some involvement as a syndicator,
but it was UFO was not a "CBS series"

Yes, but was it not distributed by CBS to it's affiliates?

As I understand it, it was broadcast by stations which
were *owned* by CBS, but it was not distributed to it's
affiliate stations. Instead, ITC sold it to stations
around the USA, which meant it was shown on NBC,
ABC, and CBS stations. For example, where I lived
it was shown on the local ABC station.

No, it was not distributed to all CBS affiliates. The CBS affiliate in
Birmingham Alabama is WBMG and it didn't run UFO here. It was carried here
by WBRC which was our ABC affiliate at that time. Further south in Mobile,
Alabama it was carried by the NBC affiliate station.
The mistake you made is from two things. One: UFO was shown on WCBS
in New York City the main station in the CBS network. But it was only shown
locally in New York City not national on the CBS network. And Two: CBS was
at one time interested in picking up UFO as a series and having another
season made for broadcast on the CBS network but for several different
reasons too long and complicated to go into it never happen. So when people
see these two things together they assume wrongly that UFO was broadcast in
the US on the CBS network when it was really shown only in syndication.
