Original SID model?

Marc Martin
Administrator
Hi all,

Kevin e-mailed me some photos of what is claimed to be an original
(restored)
SID model. The photos are here:

http://www.ufoseries.com/sid/

So what does everyone think? Original? Or fan scratch-built?

Comparing it to the SID publicity photos, I see that some of the
details in base of the "neck" area are different. Also the
solar panels are definitely not original. But that's not
conclusive proof of anything...

Hi all,

I took a look at the modeller's reference photos for
SID (taken after the series was over), and I don't
this new model compares well with the original.
Take a look at the back, for example:

http://ufoseries.com/sid/sidCompare.jpg

And while it's true that there was more than one
size of SID model made, I think there was only
one large one.

So my vote is against this being an original.

Oh, and if anyone needs these reference SID photos,
I've added them to the directory:

http://ufoseries.com/sid/

The files sidRef*.jpg are the photos from the
1970s, and the files sidNew*.jpg are the photos
that Kevin sent me.

I'll go along with this. Comparing the photos the detail on
this "restoration" does not hold up. If this is supposed to be a
restored SID then there cannot have been much of the original left.
There are far too many discrepancies on close inspection.

Barrington
