Well, slightly off-topic, but this aircraft was discussed the other day and
has features we like in one of the SHADO aircraft.
USAF OSPREY: The USAF special operations variant
of the V-22 Osprey -- the CV-22 -- rolled out of
the Bell Helicopter plant in Arlington, TX, last
month, the first of a planned 50-aircraft buy.
USAF should take ownership of its first
operational CV-22 in 2004.

On 11 July, the US Marine Corps
grounded its 106 AV-8B Harriers after the 21 June
crash apparently caused by an engine fire (the
pilot ejected safely). By 28 August, 30 new
F402-RR-408A/B engines for Harriers had been
cleared for flight. The latest crash resulted from
a failed number-three bearing, the fourth such
failure, but evaluators have not determined why
the bearings are failing. Harriers with the
F402-RR-406 engines were not affected.
