Re: PHIL MADOC

ed,..............straker...........
i found out last night that there was an english col. named stocker, that lost his daughter and went on a rampage before ww2, blaming kidnappers who used blimps from germany to carry off young women as brides for hitler. it was too fantastic to believe, so i googled the historly channel and asked for verification, when i get an email back about this i will post it here.
also i watched the first 3 episodes last night and i posted the first ones findings, that i have to change. the first alien captured might have been human, and just a random dead end sterile that was very old. the other alien that was european swedish looking was young with no transplants, and they didnt say that he wasnt human. so , i dont know again. the spaceghost mind hive theory seems most likely, or that the race is dead and has to have bodies somehow hived electronically, as the third episode ''flight path'' has a  electronic mind contorl device implanted in some kind of spy.
i also thought of another angle, that these ancient humans that resent us present day earthers so much from a dying world, might be from our own future, comming back out of spite, feeling that we owe them something for ruining the world, thier world, and hate us and use us and invade us because they want their own planet's younger version for them selves. that would explain a lot. if you do go faster than the speed of light, the theory is that you might be able to go back in time. and you might end up out there by pluto and have to come back to earth or something like that. and the present day elements might actually be toxic to a depleted future earth's resources. still too many unanswered questions about all that. i thought also that the green part of the top capsule of the ufo might be uranium, or another isotope and be able to create a nuclear feild propulsion unit.
the yellow bottom plate might be silicate and a capacitor. that would force the electrons out of the shells and thru the struts to the plates, and emitt a pretty strong em field. enough to push against a solar system's gravity, like paddling underwater for us would be,
that would also mean that spinning it would give it traction against the planet's gravity wells, i dont know if it would go as fast as warp4, but it would move at least, like the new ion thrusters do, by spitting out electron bursts, but like a pinwheel  and take off like a frisbee instead. maybe im just thinking too much about it.i have to go to work in a few moments, and sit in front of a scanner and thoughtlessly push paper today for hours.
o well.

According to imdb, Philip Madoc's character was named Steven, but I'm not sure where their info comes from.

If Gerry Anderson had a habit of giving 'unnamed' characters the actor's names, how does Philip Madoc's character being named Steven make sense?  I think I might be misinterpreting your meaning.  : )

Re: PHIL MADOC

Philip Madoc was also in the episode 'Destruction' as the captain of the ship  carrying the canisters that were to be dumped. Perhaps there might have been some confusion over the names of the  two 'characters'.

in Destruction he  was listed in the credits as 'Captain Steven'. Wheras in Q of P he was just listed as 'Rutland'

Phil Madoc also played the Captain of the British warship in the episode "Destruction". His first name was Steven, in that episode, as Admiral Sheringham calls him by name on screen.

As to Rutland's first name, I don't remember it being mentioned at anytime on screen. In fanfiction, I've seen both Phil and Steven used. I've used Steven in my stories.

---------------------------------------------

No, not now nor at the time of UFO's production has "Mac" or "Max" been in common use as a slang or nickname in Britain - not even for people whose surname begins with "Mac" or "Mc".

I always thought of "Mac" as being US slang as it often seemed to crop up in Hollywood films of the 1930s and 40s. That usage never caught on in Britain though.

Max as an actual name was rare in the UK in the 1960s and is only slightly more common now but it still isn't very common.

I tend to think of Max/Maximillion as being more of a common German/Austrian name. In that case it is not surprising that not many British parents would have given their sons such a name throughout much of the 20th Century - but it was just as rare before WW1 anyway so that might be fairly irrelevant.

John
