Piccadilly Circus shot in The Long Sleep

jamesgibbon

Hi folks,

I put together a 'then & now' comparison of Piccadilly Circus
using a capture from The Long Sleep and a photograph which I
took myself sometime in 2001 -

Piccadilly Circus certainly changed a lot over the thirty years, not
least because the statue of Eros was moved twenty yards or so a few
years ago, as you can see if you take a look at the pics, but it
looks like a new floor was built onto the Royal Pavilion as well.

I took the 2001 pic from the first floor (that's 'second floor' to
our American readers I think) of Tower Records. Now, based on the
perspective looking along Coventry Street toward Leicester Square,
I'd say that the camera used to shoot these scenes in The Long Sleep
was more or less in the same place on the same floor - perhaps four
or five feet to the right of where I took the pic. Unfortunately,
that particular window looks out from an area of Tower Records which
is closed to the public (it's one of their offices).
