There's an irony to secrecy.What's the point of being secret if no one knows about it?
Or to put it another way.Because it's a secret everyone wants to know about it.The fact it's a secret is the best publicity an organisation can have.
I think the premise behind the SHADO/SHADAIR logo and SHADO personnel badges is just that.The concept of a secret wanting to be recognised.At least to me it's an interesting way of getting around the problem.
Of course there is also the commercial angle.Anything with SHADO on it was saleable.It is similar to the UNCLE sets I remember being sold around the same time.
As far as plot holes and poor scripting are concerned,UFO certainly has many of them.I have always tried to explain some of them using imaginative licence.Others are a little more difficult.
