The Responsibility Seat....all the comments I hear!....

Wow! Poor Alec really seems to be taking it on the
chin in this episode!....Allegations of incompetency and letting his
alchoholism interferre with his job.....

I've never seen evidence that Alec let his drinking
in any way interferre with his job performance in any of the episodes!
He's always struck me as a very competent #2 man for SHADO....with very
different views than his boss, no doubt, but a very solid man in his own
right.

I think he was unfairly portrayed as a clown in
this episode, they went overboard making him look bewildered and out of
control. Alec is really a cool guy.

There is another instance in UFO where one of the
characters is unfairly demonized in one of the episodes, to an extent that it
fails to match his character for the rest of the series, and that is the
outrageous and rather uncharactersitically overboard pigheadedness of
General Henderson in the episode "Conflict". Henderson is meant to be a hard
boiled ramrod of a leader, but effective in his job, and in any other episode he
comes across as reasonable and believable in that role. But in "Conflict",
he's totally out of control and irrational, pissing in his own pool and cutting
his own throat about the organization he himself worked so hard to build. It has
given many people here an unfairly negative opinion of the guy.

Thank you all....

Dave H.

I think so, too. As someone mentioned, though, maybe he was trying to do
things the way he THOUIGHT Straker would have done in this ep ...

That's true, too - Henderson is a bit of a jerk in that ep, Course, he's
a jerk in Court Martial too.
