Re: A&E UFO DVD's

The UFO set one arrived in the mail from Deep Discount DVD today. I took the
free shipping option. I am so excited to finally see them again. I'm having
flashbacks back to seventh and eighth grade!

To answer the questions for impressions and criticisms...I've only seen
identified (after watching the extras and photos---haven't gotten around to
audio commentary yet). The photos look like screen captures
much like those of 1999 but a little better in quality that those. The sound
is fine...sharp and clear even on my old Soundblaster PCI card and el cheapo
speakers. The pictures are clear but the color seems a bit much. I don't
remember Straker's office being that red and his complexion looks sunburned
alot of the time and when it is not he appears to be wearing Lt. Ellis'
"frosty pink" lipstick...which is a bit disconcerting at times.

It brings to mind a novel by Joe Haldeman where a space traveller returned
to a future Earth to find men wearing make-up and trying to be the dolls of
society. I think if the 1980's envisioned by the Andersons were similar,
Straker would have gone "rogue" like the book character.

I'll let you know if the other episodes have the same "hue."
Regardless, the initial scenes at Harlington-Straker were wonderful,
especially as the episode title IDENTIFIED was flashed across the screen,
and I cant wait to wath the rest of the episodes.

Are you sure this is not simply a DVD player problem? I have noticed
that things like contrast & color saturation vary a lot from player
to player. For example, on my el-cheapo Apex DVD player, the colors
are too saturated and the picture is on the bright side (the blacks
are kind of a muddy gray). However, on my overpriced Sony :-),
everything looks great -- the color is more subdued, and it's the
brightness/contrast is perfect, with nice solid blacks. (and this is
on the same TV set).

You could be right about that, I have a cheapo APEX AD1500 player myself but
usually play DVD's on my PC
(Memorex DVD/CD drive that's about two years old). I hadn't noticed the
color probs on other DVD's, though. The color was alot less glaring in
COMPUTER AFFAIR and hardly noticable at all in FLIGHT PATH (which I'm about
half-way through and will finish shortly.)
