No I didn't!

If you got a virus e-mail that says it's from me,
then that means that somebody who has me listed in
their address book has the virus.

I know that somebody has the virus who also has
me in their address book, because I'm getting
lots of automated messages informing I'm sending
them a virus.

How do I know that my computer's not infected?
Simple -- I've got a Macintosh. The virus
doesn't work on Macintoshes.

When this virus first hit, I was being flooded
with these virus e-mails -- probably 50-100 day!
It was so annoying that I changed e-mail providers
to one which automatically deleted these virus
e-mails before they ever got to me (spamcop.net).
They also do a much better job at filtering junk
mail than my local internet provider did, so
I'm finally not drowning in junk mail...

Although... the problematic side of this is that
I didn't even realize that a virus was sent to the
list, because my new provider filtered that out
(plus Rob and Dave's reply!). I guess this
filtering is based on the subject line...

So in a rather unusual move, the list moderator
has now put himself in moderation mode!! (at
least until this virus is over)

Don't know if this worked, but I tried uploading a few stills into the
SHADO files section. They are of various moonbase views.

Marc - how would a virus get through the list if it is set to "no
attachments", as it is? Someone may get a message with your name on it
but it wouldn't be through the list, so moderating yourself may be a
tad extreme.

Still, people should watch for messages from anyone, including Marc
and friends, family, etc. and not open any attachment unless they were
expecting it in the first place. That's good common sense these days,
not just for this particular piece of nastiness.

You're right -- SHADO didn't let the actual virus through, but it still
let through the e-mail stripped of the virus.

I guess since the virus listed me as the sender and SHADO as the
recipient, that someone on this list is actually infected with the
virus, and has both me and the list in their address book...
