Ah yes - CCAOK. Gee. What to say. Well, like many UFO fans I have yet to
understand why Straker, a strong, silent, workaholic type, chose to wed such
a useless clinging vine as Mary. Maybe it was a case of opposites
attracting? 'Nuff said on that subject! The eps itself certainly gives us
lots of background on 2 levels: 1) Straker's personal past life, and 2) the
beginnings of SHADO. We also see what appeared in this eps to be a good
working relationship with General Henderson. Other eps would give this
relationship a negative edge, as has already been discussed. We certainly
see that Straker was much more "human" in the past, and that part of him
still remembers a different time - when he gives the new daddy a weeks'
leave to attend to his wife and new baby. While the show may not give us
alot of action-adventure, it does tear Straker's soul open for us to see
some of what makes him the hard-ass he becomes later on.
