I look at the diagrams - very interesting indeed == The Moonbase -- what was
the number people maning it -- same for SHADO HQ and SkyDiver -- I figure the Moonbase and SkyDiver had small crews manning them -- Glenn In a message dated 4/17/2008 9:21:56 A.M. I figure there would need to be between 21 and 40 people manning Moonbase at any one time to complete the mission intended for it. But I've never seen any real hard evidence of the show's intended staffing numbers anywhere in the series. My numbers come just from a practical look at task assignments and duty schedules for the mission implied by the show. The base also seems just too small practically to perform it's intended functions. I tend to imagine it larger, with three levels to each sphere rather than the just one implied by the show. Skydiver, in the show, only seems to have about 5 people on board, and it, also, seems way too small to perform it's intended funtion when watching the show these days. As a kid watching it, I always had the impression that SkyDiver was much larger and had a crew of around 50 to 100. The larger crew makes it more suitable for long haul deployments, rather than the short "day tripper" status that watching the show these days seems to give it. I quite agree with Moonbase staffing numbers. In my view I see
the "topside" Moonbase spheres as the public view of what is an "experimental" military moonbase. There would have to be a lot more underground bays for missiles, interceptor maintenance, fuel and parts storage which I believe would best be situated around the Interceptor launch silos. The pad in front of Moonbase is supposed to be for heavier craft to land than the shuttle presumably with larger amounts of supplies which are then squirrelled away to the various underground storage bays. As for Skydiver one episode I seem to remember the Captain does get on the internal phone to the engine room!
