Re: Digest Number 1941

I've discussed this with some of the oldtimers on the Space 1999 list and we pretty much agree the discussion began to change after the DVD sets became available. People don't have such a difficult time getting to see the show anymore, an entire run can be owned for less than $100 and in the case of UFO the first big DVD release episodes looked stunning. So the great struggle of SFTV fans worldwide is finally resolved as many many obscure series are now being released on DVD. And maybe the discussion is less interesting without the common thread of looking for those episode?!

Also after 5+ years on web based discussion groups I think the dynamic of how discussion works has changed from the old listserv days. It's really easy to be on a list but not REALLY on a list with the NO MAIL option. You just bounce in every couple of weeks on the web, catch up with the threads and then disappear. You loose the connection a bit I think.

Well, were having a bit of a crisis next week and I'll be bringing my entire 1999 DVD collection to keep me company for the week I'll be away. Perhaps if I have the opportunity to get through a bunch of episodes I'll have something new to bring to the 1999 table. I haven't considered bring UFO with me but I might bring a disc or two of my favorite episodes like Mindbender, Subsmash and Timelash.

One of the things I thought about doing once I order the new Network 1999 discs is watch the show with the music track only (An option on the New release) I could probably piece something together with Marc's UFO stuff also as long as I start the file and the episode at the right time! I bet Exposed might be cool to watch that way.

And Marc, have you ever considered watching the episodes in another language? Did you collect the Italian, German and Japanese versions?

I've got the French, Italian, and Japanese versions, but I've
mostly only looked at the special features. I've only looked
at the dubbed versions of the episodes briefly, just to see
what kind of voice they used for each of the characters...

Re: Dubbed Versions

The two most interesting aspects of the french version, to me, are:

1. Alec's voice is dubbed by the same person who did Victor's voice
in the french version of "Space 1999".

2. Even better, on a few occasions, Straker refers to Alec as "The
Canadian" !
