Hi people,
I'm not a regular poster to the group but I was lucky enough to go to the Eclectic con recently & have a couple of thoughts to share. IMHO, it was a dream for a UFO fan (only a pity Sylvia Anderson couldn't be there) & I would like to give thanks to John & everyone else involved in putting it together. :-) The UFO memories session was the UFO highlight of the weekend, for me. I hope that someone will be able to make a transcript for everyone to read, sadly I had no means of recording it. At one point Mike B. delivered a long speech from one of the eps (Dalotek, I think) & he said it had been so tricky to remember that he had chalked the 1st 2 words on the floor, and that in the ep. you could see him look down. Mike B. also recalled an acting tip that Ed had given him, namely to 'walk' on the spot before making an entrance, in order to look more convincing. He gave a good demonstration of how this looked, he's still pretty fit, I think ;-) Joking apart, he really did seem like a decent guy & made a point of talking to a lady who had come from the US that he had been e-mailing with. Ed & Mike seemed to have a strong mutual appreciation, particularly Mike for Ed's technical ability. Ed was very fond & respectful of Vladek Sheybal - you could practically see him bouncing when Dr Jackson came up! - and Ed & Mike agreed that when you were in a scene with Vladek, you would give up acting (Mike loved to repeat the word 'Psychobombs' in a Vladek-type accent). Something that came up in Mike's guest interview (I think) was the suggestion that some of the stronger 'character'-type storylines, e.g. Straker's marital problems & his struggles to get funding for SHADO, might have been suggested by Gerry Anderson's own personal life at the time. This was a new idea to me, sorry if it's old hat... These are just a few reflections which can't convey the fantastic atmosphere and fun and friendliness of the con. Being able to reminisce about a 30-year-old series with some of the people that *MADE* it was a great privilege. Very groovy. Sarah |

What??? Ed has been corresponding with someone via e-mail??? That is news to me. I know that Ed has a computer but I but, so far, no one has made mention of his e-mail address:-( > >Ed & Mike seemed to have a strong mutual appreciation, particularly Mike for >Ed's technical ability. Aaaaaaarrrgh! Hell, when am I gonna win vast loads of money so I can traipse the planet to go to these conventions? > >Something that came up in Mike's guest interview (I think) was the >suggestion that some of the stronger 'character'-type storylines, e.g. >Straker's marital problems & his struggles to get funding for SHADO, might >have been suggested by Gerry Anderson's own personal life at the time. It is ironic that at the time A Question of Priorities was given the thumbs-down. > >These are just a few reflections which can't convey the fantastic atmosphere >and fun and friendliness of the con.
