Y'know, the more I think about it, the more I think Ed would have been a
wonderful TNG captain. He'd have looked magnificent in those red and black
Star Fleet uniforms, not to mention he has lots of HAIR and those big blue
eyes! I think he could have been a driven, sexy, complex Enterprise captain!
He has that commanding air about him, and nobody could say Patrick Stewart
struck them as being a "physical" actor - most of the fisticuffs on TNG were
taken care of by the characters of Riker and Worf.

now you really are being silly , Ed is no way good enough for any Star
Trek.
Come on lets be honest UFO is a quality show , but some of the acting was ,
shall i say a bit wooden

I hadn't really thought of Ed in anything to do with Star Trek. But you
mentioning it makes me think of a little comic book story I saw years ago
where the Enterprise finds a abandon spacecraft and there are these moth-like
aliens and some cacoons type things. One of the aliens takes out Kirk and
one of the egg things hatches and Straker comes out and takes over command of
the Enterprise.
Yes Ed would be wonderful at the physical stuff. The hand to hand
combat scene in Refections In The Water was great!

Maybe one of those crazy TNG admirals instead of a captain.

Just my own opinion, and I stick to it.
I have just watched UFO Invasion and the acting in it was appalling by
everybody.
He might well have gone to Lamba and my well have a degree but it does not
make him a good actor , only an average one. Some of the films I have seen
him in , if you touched him you would get a splinter it was that wooden. The
was perfect for the part in UFO , but not that good at it.

Well, to be fair, INVASION:UFO was derived by 3 of the worst
episodes, acting wise -- IDENTIFIED, COMPUTER AFFAIR, and REFLECTIONS
IN THE WATER. Most of the episodes have better acting than this!

Yes that's true, what go me was the way they just tagged all the bits
together.
The part near the end where Foster and Col Lake are seen , they just appear
no explanations how they got there or anything. They find out that a UFO has
been underwater and using a volcano and then Foster says "You think it has
been to Cornwall" very confusing.
I'm sure they could of come up with a better film ,if they wanted to.
I would love to see a remake of it now using today's technology it would be
amazing to watch, but who would play Ed Bishops part?

Do the casting, Paul: cast a log and you'll be in business!

Actually, I was thinking on the ones like Kerry O'Quinn played in the
"Pegasus" episode, willing to sacrifice his crew and all. Hey, waitaminute,
what about like William Windom's commodore Decker from the original series
("The Doomsday Machine")? Picture Ed sitting there going, "...There was, but
not anymore!..."

Boy, I've seen that one too many times...

Pam,
Wouldn't that have been fun? Straker striding around the bridge of the
Enterprise. Hmmm... has possibilities. But while he did okay with an
ensemble cast in UFO, he was still unmistakeably the lead character. TNG
wouldn't have allowed him that, and that would have been sad. *sigh*
Anyway, whenever I need Straker in a Star Trek fix, I just reread Deb's
wonderful "Harvest of the Planters" which includes both Kirk AND Straker!
Pretty cool by my way of thinking!!!

gee a Fulbright grant, a The RADA Medal for Acting, and The Olivier Award,
woe what a talentless bunch the cast of UFO was!
