Dear Folks - Just got back after the long Canada day weekend here and found
over 100 postings to go through! Whee-ooo! Lots of interesting threads and
and continuation of threads started last week. I agree with Marc that there
is room in UFO for a variety of attitudes, from storylines and premises to
the acting. As much as I like the performances given for the most part, I
also like William Shatner, and many Trek fans have singled him out
personally to say they hate his style. I don't like Captain Helium (Janeway)
on Voyager, so shoot me. It's all a matter of personal taste - all
subjective. I know Mike B. has been extremely self-critical about his own
performances on UFO and even feared he'd never get work again.
For me, I'm happy with what I consider to be competent performances by
interesting actors/actresses, plus of course the storyline premise, the
costumes, hardware, etc. Maybe I'm easy to please. But, you can say similar
things about Trek, the TV series Planet of the Apes, B5, Lost in Space, Land
of the Giantds, The Twilight Zone, Outer Limits, X-Files, et al. I think if
a person disagrees they have the right on this group to do so nicely and we
should refrain from flaming each other. After all, if it's going to be a
friendlier universe out there, it's up to us to make it so (sorry for the
pun from TNG - I couldn't resist!).
Anyhoo, I have to say that the folks posting here on this egroup make me
think seriously about why I remembered the series kindly after 31 yrs, why I
bought eps on tape to watch the series again, and why I found the characters
compelling enough to want to write fan fiction again after many years of
straight journalism. I think there is something here for us all, and that's
what Marc has wanted this egroup to provide I'm sure!
Ciao - Pam
