You are confusing two different actresses. The one who played Carlin's sister Lelia was played by Edwina Carroll, who mostly played exotic Asians although she was not, well not Asian. She was in such movies as 'A Town Like Alice', 'The Road To Hong Kong' & 'Genghis Khan'. And oh yes she played the space stewardess on the Pan Am moon flight in a film I won't name for health reasons! The actress who played the head of Operation:Foster was Jean Marsh who played Rose in Upstairs Downstairs. Not the same actress at all. Neil writes;- What I have done, in my idea for a UFO screenplay, is to make the Leila Carlin & Janna Wade characters a 'composite' character, i.e. my 'Leila Carlin' is a combination of not only the Leila from 'Identified' but also the Janna Wade character from 'Exposed' too. I think it would make dramatic sense to do this than to kill off Leila Carlin in (my) pre-credits sequence and not to refer to her again and also to introduce Janna Wade - as she was in 'Exposed' - and then forget about her. I think I can take the best parts of each character and make them an even better one! On the subject of all things composite, I'm thinking of combining the 'Utronics Flight' scene from 'Identified' with the 'XV-104' scene from 'Exposed' as I feel it would be a good way of introducing Foster, Freeman & Virginia Lake all at the same time. A UFO plans to attack the Utronics plane with Freeman & Lake onboard (they are en route to Shadair which will take the Utronics device to Moonbase in my story) but the XV-104 gets in the way. Foster ignores warnings from Kofax to get out of the Utronics plane's fligh path as he's keen to get photos of the UFO. In the ensuing chaos, the Utronics plane crashes into the sea; Freeman & Lake survive but the Utronics device sinks to the ocean floor. Virginia Lake holds Foster personally responsible for this happening so there is a tension between them when they first meet - I think thei would create an interesting dynamic between the two characters. Foster's first mission for SHADO is to retrieve the Utronics device from the ocean floor - but it is a race against time as to who will reach it first, SHADO or the Aliens! Leila is injured in the battle and an Alien is taken prisoner ... Foster and Lake take the Utronics device to Moonbase. It is only when Leila turns up at Moonbase unexpectedly - unbeknownst to Moonbase, she overpowered Jackson when he found her DNA was the same as the captive Alien - that it becomes apparent that she is an Alien agent with plans to destroy Moonbase! The scene is set for an explosive finale! I feel I can introduce a lot of the SHADO 'hardware' - Moonbase, Interceptors, SHADO HQ, Skydiver, Sky One etc - in the first sequence after the credits, which takes place 10 years after the events depicted in the pre-credits sequence; I think the year the movie's set in could be 2080. I would also want to introduce elements of SHADO when Foster first joins them, so the audience sees SHADO for the first time at the same time that Foster does; I think it'd be cool if we saw Foster arrive at Harlington-Straker Studios and we watch in amazement as he watches in amazement as he's taken underground to SHADO HQ. Initially, after the credits, SHADO & it's hardware is shown in a series of fastly-edited scenes, after all, this would heighten the excitement of the opening XV-104/Utronics sequence. Once Foster is a member of SHADO, I think I can afford to ease off the gas pedal a fraction and show SHADO and it's hardware in more detail! The main things I'm looking at heightening are both action and suspense. Going back to the pre-credits, I may not include Henderson in the car on the way to Chequers that's attacked by a UFO. There will be plenty of conflict between Straker and Henderson in the main guts of the story, that's a promise! So, yes, I think I can put together a good 'fantasy' screenplay treatment for a prospective UFO movie! I plan to write it some time as a story as opposed to a screenplay as I am not familiar with how to write in that discipline. This is something that I think will be fun to do! Although the above may sound very Foster-orientated, let me assure you all, my story will have the ensemble feel of the series. I will admit my idea is very Foster-orientated in places but I feel it's important to tell this type of story through one main character as opposed to several, as I feel that that approach could weaken the storyline. That's enough for now - I actually have a great idea for an end twist that could finish the story with an element of ambiguity! I will share that idea with you in a later email I think! I'll keep you all posted on any developments! Neil __________________________________________________ Yahoo! Plus For a better Internet experience http://www.yahoo.co.uk/btoffer |
Neil,
That is a very interesting story idea. It might not be where or how I or others would do it but in is an exceptional and original idea! It will be very interesting to see what you do with it. James K. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |
