You sure it isn't a Canadian saying it that way? They tend to put "er" in and after a lot of words up there ;-)

Canadians pronounce it as "left-tenant" as well. Captain Waterman
in the show is Australian, and they pronounce it "left-tenant" so
there isn't any obvious reason he say "loo-tenant" in the episode;
maybe it was Gary Myers' personal preference to do so.
