Actually, bombarding Earth heavily would probably be a pretty good idea
from the aliens point of view, especially if we provided all of the
ordnance to do it. If they were to "bomb us back to the stone-age" then we
would be easy pickings but perhaps that's a bit too much. They could send
an initial large scale bombardment of major cities then drop a few bombs
down per week until our civilization collapsed. That way we'd have small
to medium sized towns and reasonably good health care (and organs to
harvest) but no sophisticated mechanized military. If we hid our hi-tech
and then rose up again to fight, they could punish us a little more until
we behaved ourselves.
