Respitory acidosis was mentioned in the movie "Andromeda Strain". Oneof the characters survived an airborne virus by going into respitory acidosis. "Andromeda Strain" is a book about mankind's first contact with an alien life form that was not in humanoid form. Very cool movie.

I just found a VERY interesting aspect to "Subsamsh"...

For those of you who haven't read it, the lastest issue of Fanderson
has a tribute to Ed Bishop, rel;ating his career...

He's talking about his role in "2001: a space odyssey" but it applies
very much to this episode (I've put all that section in this post):

"I do suffer very badly from claustrophobia and it bothered me in a
couple of films..." *

* Ha, that's gives "Sub Smash" a whole new angle, eh ?

"In 2001, I was the pilot of the spaceship and there's a wonderful
scene where this elevator opens and I step out. But before waiting
for that shot to start, I was getting panicky... There was nothing
Mickey-Mouse about Kubrick's sets ! Every single thing worked, and
this thing actually locked. I didn't get out until a guy pressed a
button so it was like being in a real elevator, you do not get out
until the mechanism lets you out, I was really getting very bad on
that"

Ed says that it breaks his heart that all of his dialogue and most of
his appreance was cut from that film but understands that, as Kubrick
shot nine hours of footage, for a two-and-a-half hour film.

"So somewhere there's a good picture floating arround about this
spaceship pilot !"
