very nice episode and a good commentary on War. When two different soldiers

on their minds, they can become friends, and in fact join forces to survive.
This concept was also done years later in a movie called Enemy Mine."

Excellent post about one of my favorite episodes. I remember the shock and
sadness when I saw the conclusion of the episode the first time around. I
often wondered how that had to have affected Paul Foster and how much help
and counsel he'd have needed from Dr. Jackson to get over it.

As for enemy mine, it was a pretty good movie, and when I saw it the first
thing I thought of was the SURVIVAL episode.

I thought the opening with the pressure leak and the expanding
balloon was quite imaginative and suspenseful. I think this is
representative of many UFO episodes, suspense, thought provoking,
great effects and good character interaction. I prefer the
earthbound episodes but this one stands out as one of my favorite
moondbase shows.

Re: SURVIVAL & Enemy Mine (Counseling for Foster)

Good point, considering the fact that Foster owed his life to the
alien, and his own people killed the poor fellow, it would be a
traumatic experience indeed. Now that you mention it, I think alot
of them could have used counseling from the good Dr. Jackson.
However, I think I would be a bit nervous sitting on his couch, being
such an intelligent Doctor, I would be afraid he would learn a bit
more about me then even I would want to know. I think Paul found
some outside shrink, oops, no couldnt do that could he, guess if you
had problems it was good ole Dr. Jackson or Frasier for your
consultation, take it or leave it!

To be fair, Enemy Mine was essentially a remake of the old Lee
Marvin film "Hell in The Pacific" where a GI and a Japanese
soldier find themselves alone on a Pacific island in similar
circumstances - made a year or two before Survival.
