In regards to the Sub-Smash eps - it's quite true that it and most of the
other eps have major flaws. I'm shocked the writers didn't pay more
attention to these inconsistencies. Did UFO ever have a "Bible" like Trek
did? As to Mary Straker, I think she's generally a character disliked by
both male and female UFO fans alike. She was an anachronism. Here was
Straker, working in SHADO with well-educated, military-minded, self-reliant
female operatives and scientists, and his wife was a typical throwback to
the 1950's kind of little hausfrau who had no thoughts outside her housework
and her kid. Makes one wonder why the writers gave Straker such a dumb wife,
unless it was point up the difference between what Mary was and the SHADO
ladies like Nina Barry, Gay Ellis, Col. Lake, et al.
