Re: THE MAN WHO CAME BACK

Pam McCaughey

I was most surprised by Denise's comments about Jackson possibly getting
offed in this eps. Since I haven't seen the eps for 32 yrs, I had absolutely
NO recollection of it. I was alarmed at the idea of killing our fav doctor!
What were the writers thinking? Jackson was the man you loved to hate on
UFO! To dispense with his character would be dumb.

As for Virginia's character being pawned off on a variety of SHADO men, it
is unfortunate that in the time period UFO was being made, alot of TV
producers and writers didn't bother with making female characters strong,
independent, etc. Today, of course, strong women are all over the TV screen,
with Buffy, Nikita and Xena leading the charge. If Virginia were being
written with today's sensibilities, she might be better served.

You're right, Pam. On today's TV, she would be allowed to be a strong
female without having a lot of affairs. As we both know from our love of a
strong female character on TV, nothing ruins a strong image more than a
woman who sleeps around! I wonder what Wanda thinks of her Col. Lake role
after all these years? Does she ever do the Cons so someone can ask her?
Yours,
Denise
