This whole "ankle incident" has been a point of confusion for decades
among UFO fans, and I think the Complete Book of UFO adds to the
confusion.

First, although Gerry Anderson repeatedly says that Ed's ankle was
*broken*, Ed has always maintained that it was simply "injured".
Gerry has even been quoted as saying that this was the reason
that UFO had to shut down production for 6 months, while Ed has
always maintained that it was just a few days that they had
to shut down.

Now, the Complete Book of UFO *does* state that the cowboy shootout
scene was filmed after the main shooting of MINBENDER had been
completed, and that it may have been shot while TIMELASH was being
shot. So it's possible that all those running scenes in TIMELASH
were filmed prior to Ed's ankle being hurt.

What puzzles me even more is the UFO Episode Guide on Fanderson's
own website. On it, it shows that TIMELASH was scheduled to
be filmed from July 24th - August 6th, while MINDBENDER
was from August 7th - August 20th:

http://www.fanderson.org.uk/epguides/ufoeg3.html

However, the Complete Book of UFO says just the opposite -- that
MINDBENDER was filmed in the first half of August and TIMELASH
in the second half. So which is true? The UFO DVDs (well,
some of them), show a clapperboard shot from TIMELASH which
clearly shows them filming TIMELASH in the latter half of
August (I think it was August 20th?), so I think the dates
on the website are wrong. Note however that the duration
for filming both these episodes exceeds the 10 days that
the other episodes took (13 days for TIMELASH and 14 days
for MINDBENDER), so this is pretty consistent with Ed's
version of the events.
