Re:UFO2:other aliens?

Hi Charles - other aliens would be a neat idea. It makes sense that we've
been visited by all kinds of alien types. There have been alot of UFO
incidents which have made the news - the case of Betty and Barney (can't
remember their last name - but it WASN'T Rubble, ha ha!) the black-white
couple who were abducted and examined (there was a film on them starring
James Earl Jones and Estelle Parsons yrs ago), the Shag Harbour incident off
the coast of Nova Scotia, the "meteor" blast over Siberia in 1908, Whitley
Streiber's experiences from his book "Witness," etc. I agree the UFO aliens'
spacecraft were too "disposable". I think it would make more sense for SHADO
to be dealing with aliens on ol' terra firma, plus I also think the aliens
would eventually find a way to "cloak" themselves to get past SHADO's space
defences (a la the Klingons and Romulans in Trek). After all, if the aliens
are coming all this distance to get organ replacements, they're gonna find
new ways to circumvent our attempts to stop them.

Dark Skies, even tho it didn't last long on network TV, was doing just what
you suggested - incorporating real people and real UFO-related events into
their storylines. I very much liked the show. I didn't get much of a chance,
but I thought it highly inventive and entertaining.

Sorry to be disagreeing with you again Pam but - I don't think
so. It does make sense, that much is true, but it sort of
dilutes the premise and potentially makes it confusing for the
audience. I think one of the great strengths of UFO was this
single, mysterious enemy who kept coming back, time after time,
never speaking a word in the whole series, and the mystery of
their real nature and purpose really created a dramatic
atmosphere. I think that to have several different alien
species in the same dramatic context would remove focus somewhat.

After all, all the great war films tend to focus on a single
enemy nation, whether it's the Japanese in Bridge Over the River
Kwai or the Germans in The Battle Of Britain. Whereas having the
Germans turn up *as well* as the Italians in What Did You Do In
The War Daddy was a big mistake in my opinion.
